An unusual early 19th century painted Welsh bureau or clerks desk. The desk has a galleried top above a sloping fall-front which is over a large single drawer and two pull-out fall supports, with four tapered legs. The interior is fitted with two small drawers and shelf (& lots of ink stains). The desk retains the original contrasting painted and grained finish. The back of the desk is panelled and also has the original grained decoration , which might suggest that this desk originally stood not against a wall but in the centre of a room?

Wonderful untouched surface with plenty of wear and signs of use.
