Elisabeth Luard – A Cook’s Year in a Welsh Farmhouse
Mon. September 26, 2011
As a non cookery book reader, I had come across Elisabeth Luard’s writing in the odd newspaper article and the occasional copy of Country Living. However, I gave this book to my aunt as a thank you present and when I next visited her, picked the book, started to read it and went home to buy my own copy.
I have tried a few of her recipe’s and can recommend the Carrot cake with orange frosting as well as her recipe for Cawl. I’ve always hated cawl mostly because from a young age I’ve always had made with grey lamb and overcooked veg. However, her version is delicious (made with ham hock) and has converted me.
I love the thought of collecting nettles in spring for her creamy nettle soup and thanks to the lack of time I give my garden these days I will have plenty of nettles to cook.
This book has some inspiring and gentle writing by Elisabeth Luard, delicious recipes and some very lovely photography by Clare Richardson – well worth buying a copy if you haven’t already.
