Llanelly House
Tue. February 24, 2015
One of the highlights of last week’s half term was a trip with our friends Chris and Claire with their four children too Llanelly House. We pre-booked the tour and the four eldest of our combined brood of seven, were given the first opportunity to use their new ipad interactive tour. The art work much of which is fixed in the house above fireplaces is charming as is the magnificent front door. The little ones aged 4 -5 followed the The House Trail looking for Margrave the mouse. A film in the Tea Room was projected on the shuttered windows (see below) and the portraits at either end of the classic Georgian room came to life, introducing us to some of the Stepney ancestors. The mirror on the dressing table of Lady Stepney’s Room came to life and the children sat mesmerized listening to the unpleasant Lady Stepney talking about her daily powdering dressing with fat of her white wig. The tour took a darker turn as we went upstairs to the servants quarters to the room of the former maid Mira Turner who ended her own life having been wrongly accused of having an affair with a married man. Then we listened to the witness’s who gave evidence at the inquest into her death. The tour ended in the very nice shop…clever old Llanelli House; (we still haven’t managed to manouvre our children out of an attraction without them spending money in such shops!) I recommend Llanelly House to anyone. You might want to take an eight year old with you. Oh and the cafe looks good I’m off for lunch there soon with my friend Jane.
