An unusual and possibly unique early 19th century vernacular Carmarthenshire armchair, made from well figured oak and with a lovely colour.

The maker of this chair has used classic joinery techniques but has also used more primitive methods, which can be seen in the fixing the front legs to the seat – this wedged technique is usually found on stick chairs or simple primitive benches. The seat is made from three small sections of oak which are fixed together using two pegged cross through tenons. This type of tenon is not unusual in Welsh furniture, but was especially used for joining large table top boards and is unusual to find on a chair seat.
