Used by sailors and sail makes, fids were used to loosen knots and separate the strands of rope for splicing.

The ash fid is 13″ long and the lignum vita fid is 12″ long  and the ash & beech caulking mallet is 11″ long & 7″ wide

19th/early 20th century, found in Carmarthenshire.
