historic-stool-1A wonderful oak trestle stool, which shows signs of much age and use. With traces of an old painted finish, an old varnish, old wax polish, also some small nails with the remains of material – so it was upholstered at some time. The pine brace between the legs looks 19th century. The top has very many old marks and scratches. The whole stool has a great patina. Difficult to date -the simple scratch carving around the top edge and along with all the history could suggest a date of around 1700 but there is no doubt that simple trestle stools like this were made over a very long period and Victorian examples are plentiful. So possibly made sometime between c1700 to c1850, but who knows exactly?…its just a lovely old stool.
