The S.S. Quito was built by Russell & Co in 1900 for Ocean Navigation Co. in Scotland. On August 7th 1922 Quito with a crew of 28 carrying iron ore from Lulea (Sweden) to the Tees, struck a submerged object, 150 miles east of Cullercoats (Northumberland) and was abandoned and lost .
